The skills you will gain:

• Carpentry and Masonry – Learn the proper maintenance of buildings and structures.
• Plumbing and Electrical – Use tools and equipment to repair facility structures and systems. 
• Finishing/Sealing – Learn the proper technique to properly finish and seal building surfaces. 
• Landscaping – Properly care for the center’s grounds. 
• Building – Build a cabinet from start to finish.

The career options you will have:

Most of our Job Corps Facilities Maintenance graduates go on to work full time on commercial buildings, schools, or residential buildings. A typical workday might include:

• Repairing issues in and around the building.
• Spending the workday on your feet.
• Overseeing the general condition of the building.
• Being “on call” for emergency repairs.

The credentials you will earn: 

As a Wilmington Job Corps student, you will have the opportunity to earn credentials in your training area. This will set you apart from others in your field and may lead to greater employment opportunities, higher wages, and promotions.

The Facilities Maintenance training program falls under the Construction training pathway. 

You can earn nationally recognized credentials from organizations such as:

• National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER)
• Construction Craft Laborer - NCCER
• Lead Abatement
• Core Curriculum - Facilities Maintenance
• OSHA 10 HR Safety Training 

You can also train within union-affiliated programs, where you will receive apprenticeship opportunities and on-the-job experience from organizations like:


• United Brotherhood of Carpenters (UBC)
• International Masonry Institute (IMI)
• International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE)
• The International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT)
• National Plastering Industry Joint Apprenticeship Trust Fund (NPIJATF)

The requirements you need to start training:

1. Complete the core Job Corps curriculum with passing scores on all written and performance tests.
2. Meet basic academic requirements in math 
and reading.
3. Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
