Job Corps is a federally funded program, which means it is 100% FREE to those who are eligible to attend.

When it comes to your future, you should have choices. Wilmington Job Corps offers hands-on career training in four high-demand industries. You can also complete your high school diploma or equivalency credential if you don’t have one.

All of our students get free transportation, food, housing, health and dental care, a biweekly basic living allowance, and a clothing allowance. Learn more about Job Corps’ benefits here.

We also offer career planning, on-the-job training, assistance with job placement, driver’s education, and English language learning.

At Wilmington Job Corps, we want all our students to excel. We have academic tutors ready to provide you with the extra help you need in reading or math. We’ll make sure you’re equipped with the right tools and resources you need to succeed.

Yes. Your instructors will assign assignments as needed to help you learn the material.

No. Job Corps does not assign grades. Instead, we want our students to demonstrate their skill in a given subject area or training area. Instructors will track your completion on your Training and Achievement Record (TAR).

Yes. We require that someone (a parent, guardian, foster parent, mentor, or friend who is interested in your success) come to the information session with you before you enroll. This same person must visit and meet with your career counselors monthly for the first 4 months of your enrollment.

Why do we require this? We strongly believe that, when each student has someone interested in his or her success, achievement will follow.

Like any place, Wilmington Job Corps Center has rules and regulations to follow. These rules are in place to keep you safe, to mirror the workforce environment, and to eliminate distractions so you can succeed in your academics and training.

To provide the safest possible learning environment, Wilmington Job Corps Center has a strict Student Conduct Policy that prohibits violence and drug use. 

Wilmington Job Corps is also taking extra precautions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Here are the rules we will be putting in place:

• We will give you masks and gloves to wear while you are on campus.
• You will be assigned cleaning duties to perform each day.
• You will be expected to socially distance yourself from other students.

You are expected to bring personal care, grooming, and hygiene items. You should not bring expensive video and audio equipment, computers, and similar items. If you have questions, don’t be afraid to ask! Your admissions counselor can help you determine what items are appropriate to bring on campus.

You are responsible for providing your own everyday clothes, but we have a clear set of expectations for student dress and personal appearance. Generally, articles of clothing with offensive wording, large amounts of jewelry, or any items that promote drugs, alcohol, tobacco, or violence are not allowed. You are required to wear uniforms during the training day that will be provided by the center at no cost to you or your family.

The Wilmington Job Corps Center partners with outside agencies that offer child care. Talk to an admissions counselor today to discuss the available options. At this time, there is not child care offered on-center.

While every center has its own rules about what devices are allowed, most centers that allow cellphones restrict their use to designated areas. Check with your admissions counselor to learn the cellphone policy at your center.

Yes, we have 24/7 security at the Wilmington Job Corps Center.

Yes, you will. Throughout your training, you will receive a biweekly basic living allowance. As you continue throughout your training, your living allowance will increase.

After you graduate, Job Corps can help you get started on your journey with a transition allowance. This allowance is based on your academic and career technical training achievement while in Job Corps.

We know life can be unpredictable. That’s why your Job Corps journey happens on your timeline. Job Corps is self-paced so you can move forward at your own speed, depending on what works best for you. Our most successful Job Corps students remain in the program for at least 18 months to gain the knowledge and social skills needed for a new career.

Yes. No one will force you to stay if you’re not happy at the center. All we ask is that you try your hardest and ask for help when you need it. If you don’t quit on us, we won’t quit on you.

Our staff is here with you every step of the way, especially as you begin your job search. Our staff will help direct you to the health care, housing, legal assistance, and child care you’ll need after you graduate. For 6 months after graduation, a Job Corps career transition specialist will keep in touch with you to make sure things are going well in your new career.

We want to help you achieve your goals, and if college is one of them, then we will work with you to get there. We have agreements with community colleges and other institutions to teach career area courses or to take courses to gain college credit. We can work with you to help you transfer into a college program when you’re ready.
